&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;I/O connector is screwed to the PCB for a more secure hold&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Adelberg,  November 25, 2008 – ERNI Electronics has introduced a new connector to its  comprehensive range of D-Sub connectors with SMT, THR, press-fit and soldering  termination. The latest addition to the product family is a right angled D-sub  connector with press-fit technology, which can be screwed to the PCB with M3 or  4#40 UNC threads after press fitting. In comparison to standard press-fit  clips, this makes the attachment even more secure. This is particularly  important in applications where the PCB is subjected to additional force due to  the use of larger and heavier cable housings.  &lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Press-fit  technology has certain processing advantages when used on backplanes and PCBs  that cannot be reflow soldered, or in cases where large quantities of other  press-fit connectors such as DIN 41612/IEC 60603-2 or 2.0mm HM connectors are  being used on the same PCB. However, press-fit technology is also an effective  solution in situations where connectors’ high heat capacity causes soldering  problems (small components overheat). Press-fit technology is also  characterized by being more reliable than soldering technology. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The new right angled robust  D-Sub press-fit connector is already available with a standard assembly height  of 7.3 mm, and will shortly be followed by a Eurostyle version with an assembly  height of 3.6 mm. The connectors are available with 9, 12, 25 or 37 pins. The  male contacts are gold-plated, and the female contacts are tin-plated. The  family of connectors complies with the IEC 807-3 and DIN 41652 standards, and  is suitable for lead-free soldering (RoHS compliant). &lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The integrated locking accessories (“jack screws”)  provide a low-impedance ground connection, and also reliably anchor the cable  housing to the connector. Versions are available with threads (M3 or 4#40 UNC)  and threaded bolts (M3 or 4#40 UNC).&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;

Complementing its industry-proven  M8/M12 cable assemblies and field-attachable connectors, ERNI is now offering,  in conjunction with I/O distribution boxes, another key element in the  information chain between field devices and control level. The I/O modules are  highly utilized in the area of industrial automation, especially as they avoid  the use of parallel cabling and complex installation involving control units or  switch cabinets. Instead of using numerous standalone cables, sensors and  actuators can be directly connected in close vicinity to the machine or  process. The concept of decentralized modules and a more structured  installation enables sensor/actuator lines to be easily, quickly and securely  replaceable.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt; All ERNI M8/M12 distribution boxes with  UL/CSA approval are designed for IP65/IP67 protection, and are built for use in  harsh and humid industrial environments. The housing is available in a variety  of port numbers and is robustly built to withstand oil, lubricants and  vibration in the harshest of environments. A range of mounting holes gives the  option of direct attachment, and ensures the close proximity of the  installation to the process. The control level is connected by a pre-assembled  trunk cable available in different standard lengths. Designed as a hybrid  cable, it acts as both the power supply and the data link for sensors and  actuators connected to the I/O box. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt; The M8 I/O boxes are available with 3-pin and  4-pin sockets and with 4, 6, 8 and 10 ports, and the M12 I/O boxes ship with 4-  and 5-pin sockets (A coded) and 4 respective 8 ports. All boxes utilize LEDs to  display the status and operation mode of the I/O ports, and every port is  equipped with a removable identification label.   ERNI supplies PUR insulated cables in standard lengths of 3, 5, 10 and  15m. The cables demonstrate a high resistance to oil, gasoline and chemicals,  and are abrasion resistant and drag chain capable. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;ERNI Electronics now also offers 10 and 12-pin designs&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Adelberg, November 11, 2008 – The single-row 1.27mm pitch MiniBridge  cable to board connector system from ERNI Electronics got high market  acceptance in many high-current, high-reliability and space-saving products  including demanding LED requirements. Applications for compact and flexible  board-to-cable connections are virtually limitless from multiple applications  including sensor, actuator, power supply or data applications in automotive and  industrial electronics, computer technology, consumer electronics or medical  engineering. Despite the small dimensions, the miniature MiniBridge solution  offers a current carrying capacity of up to 4A per contact (at 20&amp;nbsp;°C,  depending on the cable). In addition to the previously introduced pin numbers  of 2, 3, 4, 6 and 8, ERNI introduces 10 and 12-pin designs further expanding  the range of applications.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The MiniBridge cable connectors can be used in an expanded temperature  range extending from -55 to +125&amp;nbsp;°C. The male connectors have SMT  terminals with SMT mechanical board anchors, while the female connectors are  terminated via insulation displacement on the cable. Vertical and angled male  connectors and female connectors with a 90-degree and 180-degree cable outlet  open the door to a number of mating configurations. In addition, the female  connectors are available with two different locking features; a friction lock  for normal vibration/shock load of stationary applications (black connector  design) or a positive lock for high vibration/shock loads of mobile  applications (red connector design). On the more robust design (red), the  locking system can only be released using a tool (small screwdriver). &lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The MiniBridge male connectors are available in tape-on-reel packaging  and are suitable for assembly in lead-free reflow soldering processes  (RoHS-compliant) via their LCP plastic housing material.  The IDC female side is designed for  conductors with AWG 26 (wire or strand) and is provided by ERNI as a finished  assembly. Several cable options are available, including ribbon and discrete  wire, as well as cable types including PVC, high temperature TPE-ET and Halogen  Free TPE-O solutions. &lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;Blind-mate designs ensure robust connection&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Adelberg, November 11, 2008 – ERNI Electronics has expanded its  MicroSpeed family to include a new Blind-Mate version for mezzanine card  applications. The MicroSpeed connector is a 1.0-mm pitch system using SMT  technology for data rates up to 10Gbit/s.   The MicroSpeed is available in 50 signal contact modules and is designed  to be used in multiples between two parallel cards without mating issues from  negative tolerance stack up. The MicroSpeed design advantage allows many  smaller connectors to be used to shorten PCB traces, reduce PCB layers and even  improve system airflow by providing a narrow profile. Two rows of 50 signal  contacts with perimeter shielding present an ‘open pin field’ design suitable  for differential and single-ended requirements. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The new Blind-mate designs have integrated guide pins with higher  displacement tolerances to stop incorrect, forced connections. Reinforced  housing side walls absorb the larger forces that may result from virtual  &amp;quot;blind mating&amp;quot; to prevent connector damage while providing a positive  connection. This characteristic offers advantages specifically with larger,  heavier PCBs which can be connected without additional board guides.  MicroSpeed Blind-mate will initially be  introduced in the standard height of 1&amp;nbsp;mm for the male connectors and 4 mm  for the female parts for a combined 5 mm board-to-board height. Additional  heights of the MicroSpeed Blind-mate as well as additional heights of the  MicroSpeed PowerModule are planned. &lt;p&gt;The SMT or SMT/THR version ensures fully automatic processing using the  conventional SMT assembly and reflow-soldering process. The longitudinal pitch  of MicroSpeed connectors is 1&amp;nbsp;mm and the transverse pitch is 1.5&amp;nbsp;mm  (for impedance purposes). Differential signal pairs can be arranged  horizontally or vertically. Optimized crosstalk behavior is achieved with a  parallel configuration of the signal pairs (in the longitudinal direction) and  the pairing arrangement of signal and shield contact pairs. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The standard MicroSpeed is available in 16 different stack heights or  board-to-board heights from 5 mm up to 20 mm with every height in between in  just 1 mm increments. Yet all these heights are achieved by ‘mixing and  matching’ four different male and four different female connectors.  At the same time, the perimeter shielding  provides robust SMT or THR mechanical strain relief for the most reliable  soldering experience possible. MicroSpeed male and female connectors are  supplied in tape-on-reel packaging. Additional design features for fully  automatic assembly are: Black insulating bodies made of LCP for fast and  reliable visual recognition as well as a pre-mounted placement aid for easy  gripping.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;DemoBoards, SPICE models and an evaluation kit are available for the  MicroSpeed connectors.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;ERNI Electronics introduces right-angled card edge connectors designed for use in space critical applications&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;p&gt;ADELBERG, GERMANY –  October 15, 2008 – ERNI Electronics is offering a new 1mm centerline PCI  Express (PCIe) connector family that includes X1 (36 pins), X4 (64 pins), X8  (98 pins) and X16 (164 pins) right-angled connectors. These card edge  connectors are designed to meet the requirements of PCI Express architectures  that call for a high performance point-to-point full duplex I/O Bus connector.  While most PCI Express connectors available in the market are vertical, the new  ERNI PCIe connectors are right-angled, which is ideal for solving space  problems in applications where low clearance above the PCB prohibits the use of  vertical configurations.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;ERNI right-angled  PCIe connectors provide board-to-board distances ranging from 5.84mm to  16.68mm, and are compatible with 1.6mm to 2.4mm thick motherboards and 1.6mm  thick daughter cards. These robust PCIe connectors are available in 3 stack  heights of 5.84mm, 11.17mm and 16.68mm, and are equipped with molded  polarization keys to prevent improper insertion of the daughter cards. The connectors  provide solder termination with a termination length of 2.54mm. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The PCIe connector  layout is arranged in a 4-row format with 2mm pitch and the provision of 2  holes for locater pegs. This enables the connector to be securely assembled and  easy soldered through a lead-free wave soldering process. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Each serial link  supports 2.5Gb/s (per direction) in 100W Gen1 systems. The connectors, which  are available in black and in tray packaging, are ideal for use in many  applications, including servers, workstations, desktop PCs (replaces AGP) and  storage applications. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;

Unmatched in the industry today, the single-row connector  (SRC) provides a remarkable 12 Amperes per contact in only a 2.54mm  pitch. Similarly, the 8-pin version can handle up to 96 Amperes. With a  mated height of just 5mm when used in the right angle configuration,  the MaxiBridge is truly in a class by itself. The product’s competitive  pricing allows MaxiBridge to be used in virtually any automotive,  industrial or consumer application that demands top-level protection  from vibration or accidental unmating. Current applications include LED  automotive lighting and displays, industrial sensors and actuators,  fans, power supplies, LCDs, TFTs, handheld units, control panels, and a  host of others.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The level of detail  incorporated into ERNI products continues with the MaxiBridge™  cable-to-board connector family. Connectors are built with durable SMT  metal anchors to ensure high retention and strain relief forces. The  female cable housings and corresponding crimp contacts utilize a  primary and secondary lock feature that exceeds the load requirements  for vibration/shock and high tensile forces from the cable. Although  the connector is easily disconnected by hand, accidental un-mating is  prevented through the provision of dual housing locks that must be  operated simultaneously.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The  MaxiBridge connector family is designed with four mechanical keying  options in four different colors (red, green, black and blue) to  guarantee fast, accurate installation that completes with a loud  audible click. The female connector crimp contacts are designed for  cables with AWG 24, 22 and 20 (wires or strands). The contacts for AWG  18 and 16 will be available shortly.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The  MaxiBridge crimp contacts feature the most durable design for hostile  environments, a double-sided spring contact for ultra-reliable active  pressure on the male pin. To guarantee a perfect connection, the male  pin is guided by selective gold plating in the contact area, fully  coated contacts (without blank stamped edges that may corrode), and a  solid female structure.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The  MaxiBridge connector system is designed for fully automatic assembly on  SMT assembly lines. The SMT male connectors are available in tape on  reel, and the housing material can withstand the high temperatures  associated with lead-free reflow soldering processes (RoHS-compliant).&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;

The fresh design  approach delivers a number of key benefits relating to reliability and  efficient assembly.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;ERNI’s latest family of right angled DIN 41612 connectors  is available in type R, R/2 and R/3 variants. By using the &amp;quot;Eye of the  Needle&amp;quot; pressfit zone, the press-in force is reduced by approximately 25  percent, resulting in less stress on the PCB and increased reliability. An  Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) step during the manufacturing process  ensures 100% controlled pin quality.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Regarding the mating face and the termination side,  ERNI’s new connectors are fully compatible to existing versions. The  implementation in current series is possible without changing the layout. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;A press-in cover used on every pressfit version enables  the type R female connector to be pressed in with a cost effective flat rock  press-in tool, without damaging the contacts. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
All type R connectors are suitable for use with a  simple coding mechanism that uses coding tabs. The RoHS compliant Through Hole  Reflow (THR) versions are built from a high temperature resistant material that  makes them capable for reflow soldering. &lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;3W3, 3WK3, 7W2 configurations with robust stamped power contacts&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Adelberg, June 03, 2008 – ERNI Electronics is  offering an extensive range of D-Sub connectors with precision stamped  high-current contacts to meet the needs of SMT, Through-Hole Reflow (THR) and  Press Fit applications. Expensive screw-machine power contacts are no longer  necessary to achieve high-current demands. ERNI’s power and signal contacts are  efficiently stamped for maximum reliablility and lower installed cost. Designed  to be used by fully automatic assembly equipment, ERNI’s SMT and THR power  D-Subs  provide an economic solution over  traditionally more expensive manually placed connectors. In applications that  predominately use press fit connectors, such as backplanes, ERNI also provides  a press fit power D-Sub for gas tight contact requirements.  &lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The angled  high-current D-Sub connectors are available in 3W3, 3WK3 and 7W2  configurations, and can be fitted with a maximum of three power supply  contacts. However, partial assembly is also possible, as illustrated by  Deutsche Telekom, which specified a 3W3 version with two contacts for a 60 V  power supply. In press fit configuration, the high-current contacts are  specified for a maximum current carrying capacity of 30 A (at 20 °C). The male  and female multipoint connectors are supplied with the corresponding  pre-installed nut or an ‘anti-twist’ interlock bolt  (both available in  M3 or 4#40 UNC) The RoHS-compliant power  connectors are available in the standard installation height (7.3 mm),  according to DIN 41652 and CECC 75301-802. For applications with a cable  termination, ERNI also offers a D-Sub Power housing kit and high-current  contacts with a solder or crimp connection for 10, 20, 30 and 40 A. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;For fully automated assembly, ERNI’s power D-Subs are available in both  an SMT-compatible tray and tape-on-reel packaging. To further simplify pick  &amp;amp; place processing, each connector has a large intake surface for easy and  reliable vacuum pick-up. Positioning pegs are located at the center of gravity  to optimize connector placement during soldering. The SMT power and signal  contacts utilize ‘solder traps’ to minimize the wicking effect of solder away  from the pads and durable surface brackets absorb extreme mechanical forces  from mating and unmating heavy cables.   The tin-plated terminals are contrasted by black high temperature  resistant thermoplastic for improved visual inspection.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;Delivers current carrying capacity up to 18 A&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Adelberg, April 04, 2008 – ERNI Electronics has upgraded its hard metric  Universal Power Module (UPM) to include new 5-, 6- and 7-pin versions. These  UPMs augment the existing 3-pin power modules and match their current carrying  capacity of 18 A per contact (at 20°C). &lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;These new high-performance connectors are designed to supply power in  applications in line with industry standard PICMG EXP.0 CompactPCI Express  (5-pin and 7-pin versions). This completes the family of connectors supplied by  ERNI in accordance with the CompactPCI Express standard, and meets requirements  on both the signal side (ERmet ZD, ERmet type B8) and the power side. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The angled male multipoint connectors featuring pressfit technology are  designed to supply power to daughter cards in conjunction with 2mm ERmet  connectors conforming to IEC 61076-4-101. Pre-mating contacts also make it  possible to enable hot-swap applications. The corresponding straight female  multipoint connectors are used on the backplanes. The UPMs are compatible with  other 2mm and DIN 41612 connectors, and also meet the requirements for  performance grade 1 and comply with RoHS.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The UPMs are available now, with lead times of 10 days. Estimated  pricing begins at 2.00EUR per mated pair for  volume orders of the 5pin ERmet PowerModule, 2.10EUR per mated pair for volume  orders of the  6pin ERmet PowerModule and  2.20EUR per mated pair for volume orders of the 7pin ERmet PowerModule.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;ERNI Electronics realizes additional space savings with the compact and economical SMC Board-on-IDC cable connector &lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Adelberg, March 17, 2008 – ERNI Electronics has made an even  more compact version of its proven and tested board-on-IDC connector available  as part of its 1.27 mm SMC series. The total height was reduced down to  5.0 mm from its previous height of 7.3 mm, and so subsequently, cable  connectors can now be designed in an even more space-saving manner. In  addition,  the costs were significantly reduced in comparison to  a conventional solution using female and male multipoint connectors. The system avoids detachable points of contact in sensitive  applications.  In the process, the cable is permanently attached to  the connector – already soldered to the PCB – by means of the cable duct, and  forms a gas-tight connection with the IDC contacts. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The new connector enables the connection between the PCB and an IDC flat  cable to be established using only one connector, and allows the assembly of  the flat cable to be easily and quickly performed without the need for  customized tools.  The connector is designed for fully-automatic SMT  assembly, and is equipped with features to take advantage of this, such as a  black insulating body, high temperature-resistant thermoplastic housing (LCP)  for SMT reflow soldering, a pre-assembled mounting hood and tape-on-reel  packaging.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The simple assembly process is performed as outlined below, using a  simple hand lever press: &lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;ul type="disc"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
  &lt;li&gt;Remove mounting hood from the soldered connector, and mount PCB in customer-specified       installation frame&lt;/li&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
  &lt;li&gt;Move cable duct with pre-assembled flat cable to pre-lock position  &lt;/li&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
  &lt;li&gt;Using a flat die, press cable duct to crimp dimension. During this       process, the connector must be supported on the bottom of the PCB. The data sheet provides       additional information on the area and the dimensional       design of the required support &lt;/li&gt;&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The new SMT cable connector for the Board-on-IDC cable connector is  available with 12, 26 or 50 pins. To promote reliable processing and a long  service life, bonus features enable additional support by means of the contact  underneath the connector, the pre-locking of the cable duct and the  form-fitting inserted solder clips. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;New subminiature connectors in 0.8 mm pitch enable board-to-board spacing of just 3 mm&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Adelberg, February 29, 2008 – ERNI Electronics has expanded its  MicroStac® SMT connector series to include a 0.8 mm grid with 9- and  14-pin versions.  With the introduction of the 9-pin design,  board-to-board spacing of only 3 mm is now possible. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The MicroStac® components are based on a patented  hermaphroditic design.  The connector and the counter  connecter are identical, whereas the otherwise typical subdivision of male and  female multipoint connectors has been omitted. The  combination of the subminiature construction and the special design means that  these connectors are predestined for extremely compact, but nevertheless  demanding, applications.  Furthermore, this range of applications is correspondingly broad – from  sensor technology, medical instruments and mobile communication to automotive  electronics, automation engineering, measurement technology, test equipment and  building automation.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The special design and the SMT construction allow for  economical and automatic assembly. The stability of the miniature  components is supported by means of a tilt-proof contact principle with dual  side positioning of the contact on the PCB. And, with the corresponding features of  minimal weight (just 0.18 g for the 6-pin design), co-planarity of  &amp;lt;&amp;nbsp;0.1&amp;nbsp;mm and suction areas integrated in the insulating body for  the vacuum pipettes of the pick-and-place robots, the assembly can be performed  through high-speed automation.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;In spite of the extremely compact construction, the  MicroStac® products can achieve a high current-carrying capacity,  and the contact principle enables the punching of thick paneling without the bending  process.  As a result, large cross-sections (low ohmic  resistance) and radiating surface are possible, and both enable lower  self-heating than is possible with our competitors’ products.  With an ambient temperature of 20 °C  and current feed to all contacts, the 1.6 A (50-pin version, in acc. with IEC  60512, test 5b) can be processed safely and reliably. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Within the MicroStac® family, versions are  available with 6, 9, 12,14 (all single-row) and 50 pins (two-row). They are designed for board-to-board spacing ranging from 3.0&amp;nbsp;mm to  5&amp;nbsp;mm.  These subminiature connectors have a high snapping  tolerance.  The permissible center offset, when connected, is  +/-&amp;nbsp;0.7&amp;nbsp;mm in the longitudinal direction, and the permissible angular  offset is +/-&amp;nbsp;4&amp;nbsp;degrees. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;As with all fine-pitch connectors that are typically  produced in large quantities, the fully automatic assembly and processing are  important characteristics. MicroStac® connectors  feature a high temperature-resistant insulating body (PA46), and the exact  co-planarity of the contacts, for example, ensures a secure soldering with all  established SMT soldering processes. The black isolating body allows  simple visual recognition during automatic assembly and, in the antistatic packaging, the precise contacts are protected and the  connectors can be automatically loaded. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Starting with an annual requirement of 5,000 pieces,  versions with additional pin counts can be made available quickly, upon  customer request. &lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;DesignCon2008: Enhancement of proven ERmet ZD connector system enables data rates of more than 20Gbit/s&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Adelberg, Germany and Santa Clara, California,  February 04, 2008 –  ERNI Electronics (DesignCon 2008, Booth 624) today  announced the development of a new high-speed, differential, board-to-backplane  electrical connector system. The product is an enhancement of the proven ERmet  ZD® family which got high market acceptance in the telecommunications and  computer industries providing reliable differential solutions for applications  in the range of 3-10Gbit/s. The new ERmet ZD+® high-speed differential Hard  Metric connector system enables data rates of more than 20Gbit/s. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The ERmet ZD plus is based on the principal mechanical design of the ERmet  ZD with the same dimensions. To enable higher data rates and further improve  the crosstalk behavior ERNI Electronics has optimized the signal routing and  the pressfit termination of the female connector. To benefit from the maximum  performance of the new ERmet ZD plus the usage of backdrilling is recommended.  Decreasing via stub length and the related “stub effect” by backdrilling  significantly reduces the reflections and the overall BER (Bit Error Rate) of  the interconnect. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The first product of the ERmet ZD plus family is the 4-pair right angle  female connector with pressfit termination. The new ERmet ZD plus female  connector is mating compatible to the existing ERmet ZD male connector. This means,  that existing backplane designs do not need layout changes on the backplane  side, if customers want to upgrade their systems. Of course the layout on the  daughter cards has to be modified if using the new ERmet ZDplus female parts.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;About ERmet ZD&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;ERmet ZD connectors  were specially developed for differential high-speed signal transmission in  telecom applications with data rates of up to 10Gbit/s. This robust,  high-quality modular connector system is also very well suited for use in  combination with the 2mm HM (IEC 61076-4-101) ERmet line of connectors. The  special design of the signal and ground contacts ensures simple and economic  conductor track routing. The ERmet ZD connector utilizes an optimal grid  construction that reduces signal interference and offers more room for  conductor track routing. Its optimized design and effective shielding allow the  ERmet&amp;nbsp;ZD system to exhibit superb performance when faced with crosstalk  and reflections.
