Adelberg, May 17, 2010 – ERNI Electronics expands its broad portfolio of M12 connectors with a version which is suitable for direct integration in a moulded plastic or die-cast housing.

Automation components make considerable contributions to efficiency increases in production but are also subject to extreme cost pressure. To save costs, parts of a M12 connector can be "directly" integrated, meaning that the device housing thus becomes part of the connector since it can be produced in a single operation including the locking thread and the coding key. By omitting the connector bushing including the coding key, the M12 thread can be designed very robust at the housing with a correspondingly greater wall thickness. The fully-automatic SMT or THR soldering process, saving of threaded parts and assembly share of threaded parts provide significant cost savings.

The coding is determined by means of the injection-moulded plastic or die-cast housing, with dimension referring to the IEC 61076-2-101. The sealing of the housing can be performed via an O-ring, which can be optionally assembled to the connector. In addition, the turned contact seals the insulating body by means of special contours. The entire system is thereby water-proof, even when unconnected.

Tightness with regard to casting compounds typically exists. This, however, must be tested in the respective project with the respective casting compound.

The insert can be applied universally thanks to the separation of the coding from the connector. The customer can select the A, B or D coding for the housing, depending on the application and the number of pins. The version is suitable for an installation height of 9 mm.

The connectors are available in a 4-, 5- and 8-pin configuration in SMT or THR version. Standard package unit is 50 pieces/tray. Catalogue and drawings are available on the ERNI Website www.erni.com.
